Living organisms are classified for several reasons based on the information in the sources.
Early classifications by human beings were initially based on the ‘uses’ of various organisms. This was because humans needed to find sources for their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter.
More broadly, classification is necessary because it is nearly impossible to study all the living organisms. Therefore, devising some means to make this possible requires classification.
Classification also helps to facilitate the study of kinds and diversity of organisms. The taxonomic studies resulting from classification are useful in agriculture, forestry, industry and in general for knowing our bio-resources and their diversity.
