What are gymnosperms?

Gymnosperms are a group of vascular plants that reproduce via exposed seeds, not enclosed within an ovary. They are typically woody plants, including trees and shrubs, and are divided into four main divisions: Cycadophyta (cycads), Ginkgophyta (ginkgo), Gnetophyta (gnetophytes), and Pinophyta (conifers). Gymnosperms have a dominant sporophyte generation and reproduce through wind pollination.
