No, peroxisomes are exclusive to eukaryotic cells and are not found in prokaryotes such as bacteria. Prokaryotic cells lack membrane-bound organelles entirely, instead relying on the cytoplasm and plasma membrane for metabolic functions. The compartmentalization provided by peroxisomes in eukaryotes allows for specialized metabolic pathways, such as fatty acid beta-oxidation and detoxification, to occur efficiently and separately from other cellular processes.
