Lysosomes and peroxisomes are distinct organelles with different origins, enzyme contents, and functions. Lysosomes are acidic, degradative organelles that break down macromolecules and cellular debris using hydrolytic enzymes. Peroxisomes are involved in oxidative metabolism, detoxifying harmful substances and breaking down fatty acids with enzymes like catalase. They differ in biogenesis, with lysosomes part of the endomembrane system and peroxisomes formed independently. Their unique roles are complementary but not interchangeable.
