What sugars test negative for Seliwanoff?

Sugars that are aldoses, such as glucose, galactose, and maltose, test negative for the Seliwanoff test. These sugars do not contain a ketone group and thus do not react with resorcinol in the presence of hydrochloric acid. Disaccharides like lactose and maltose, which are composed of aldose sugars, will also show negative results.
