How to use a serological pipette?

To use a serological pipette, start by selecting the correct pipette for your required volume and ensuring it is clean. Attach a pipette bulb or mechanical pipetting device to create suction. Immerse the pipette tip into the liquid you want to transfer. To aspirate the liquid, squeeze the bulb (if using a manual pipette) or operate the pipetting device to draw liquid up into the pipette. When the liquid reaches the desired volume, ensure that the bottom of the meniscus aligns with the graduation mark, and avoid air bubbles. To dispense the liquid, position the tip over the receiving container, then gently expel the liquid by releasing the suction or pressing the plunger, making sure to empty the entire contents. Serological pipettes often allow for precise measurement across a range of volumes and can be calibrated for greater accuracy. After use, dispose of the pipette tip (if disposable) or clean the pipette thoroughly for reuse.
