Hypoxia is a pathological condition in which the entire body or a particular region is deprived of adequate oxygen supply
Types of hypoxia:
Cytotoxic (histotoxic) hypoxia: tissues are unable to utilize oxygen, e.g., cyanide or carbon monoxide poisoning
Anaemic hypoxia: reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood due to low haemoglobin concentration
Hypoxic hypoxia: caused by low environmental oxygen (e.g., high-altitude sickness)
Stagnant (ischaemic) hypoxia: poor blood circulation (e.g., heart failure, localized blood flow obstruction)
Carbon monoxide hypoxia: CO binds irreversibly to haemoglobin, blocking oxygen transportSymptoms commonly include:
Breathlessness, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, anxiety, lethargy, confusion, and communication difficulties
