Where do glycogenesis and glycogenolysis occur?

Glycogenesis and glycogenolysis occur in the liver and muscle cells. In the liver, glycogenesis stores excess glucose as glycogen, and glycogenolysis releases glucose back into the bloodstream to maintain blood glucose levels. In muscle cells, glycogenesis stores glucose for use during exercise, and glycogenolysis provides glucose-6-phosphate for ATP production in glycolysis.
