When would glycogenolysis normally occur?
Answered
Glycogenolysis normally occurs during periods of fasting, exercise, or when blood glucose levels are low. After a meal, when blood glucose levels are high, glycogen synthesis (glycogenesis) predominates. However, when glucose levels drop, such as during physical activity or overnight fasting, glycogenolysis is activated to provide a rapid supply of glucose. It also occurs between meals when blood glucose is needed to maintain energy levels.
