In one complete turn of the Krebs cycle, 1 molecule of GTP (or ATP) is produced through substrate-level phosphorylation. However, the cycle indirectly contributes to the generation of a significant amount of ATP via the electron transport chain. From one cycle turn: 3 NADH yield approximately 7.5 ATP (3 × 2.5 ATP), 1 FADH₂ yields 1.5 ATP, and 1 GTP (or ATP) adds 1 ATP, resulting in a total of about 10 ATP equivalents per cycle. Since each glucose molecule produces two acetyl-CoA molecules, the total ATP yield from the Krebs cycle per glucose is about 20 ATP equivalents.
