Bacterial cells primarily reproduce through binary fission, a form of asexual reproduction. In binary fission, the bacterial DNA is replicated, and the cell elongates. The DNA molecules are segregated to opposite ends of the cell, and a septum forms in the middle. This septum divides the cell into two daughter cells, each of which is genetically identical to the parent. The process is fast and efficient, allowing for rapid population growth under favorable conditions.
