State that HIV infection may lead to AIDS

HIV infection may lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, progressively weakens the immune system by attacking and destroying CD4 T cells, which are essential for immune function. If left untreated, HIV can progress through various stages, ultimately resulting in AIDS, characterized by a severely compromised immune system and increased vulnerability to opportunistic infections and certain cancers.
