Codon to Amino Acid Translator

Codon to Amino Acid Translator

This free Codon to Amino Acid Translator tool lets users input an mRNA or DNA sequence and instantly converts codons into amino acid chains. It supports both 1-letter and 3-letter amino acid formats, detects start and stop codons, and handles incorrect base pairs or incomplete triplets with clear error messages.

How to Use

  • Select sequence type: mRNA (A, U, G, C) or DNA (A, T, G, C)
  • Paste your nucleotide sequence in the text area
  • Click the Translate button to convert the input into amino acid sequence
  • Tool highlights valid codons and marks start or stop codons distinctly
  • Copy either the 1-letter or 3-letter translated sequence using buttons

Features

  • Supports both DNA and RNA formats automatically
  • Shows codon triplets along with amino acid info (1-letter and 3-letter)
  • Detects and highlights start (AUG) and stop codons
  • Warns if input is not divisible by 3 or contains invalid characters
  • Interactive UI, optimized for desktop and mobile browsers
  • Clean copy function for downstream use of results

Who Should Use This Tool

  • Genetics students learning transcription and translation
  • Biotech researchers analyzing codon patterns in gene sequences
  • Bioinformatics professionals working with gene expression data
  • Educators teaching DNA-RNA-protein relationships in molecular biology
